Day 1: Arrival in Paradise
Morning: After months of anticipation, my plane touched down on the mesmerizing island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. As I stepped out of the airport, the gentle breeze and the scent of the sea instantly put me in a holiday mood.
Corralejo Dunes Natural Park: First stop of the day - Corralejo Dunes Natural Park, a striking landscape of golden sand dunes stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s like walking through a desert oasis with the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the rolling dunes on the other. Don’t forget to snap some photos; this place is an Instagrammer’s dream.
Afternoon: Lunch at a Beachfront Restaurant: After some sandboarding fun on the dunes, I headed to one of the beachfront restaurants in Corralejo.Unlike me if you are a non-vegetarian, the local seafood and Canarian cuisine are something you must try. I savored some veggie options & papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes) with mojo sauce.
El Cotillo: El Cotillo, a charming coastal village, was my next stop. The picturesque fishing harbor, crystal-clear lagoons, and tranquil beaches made it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. The sunset here is magical, so be sure to return in the evening.
Evening: Dinner at a Local Tapas Bar: For dinner, I found a cozy tapas bar in El Cotillo. I tried a veggie tapas accompanied by a freshly squeezed orange juice. The atmosphere was lively, and the locals were incredibly friendly.
Day 2: Adventure Awaits
Morning:
Beachside Chiringuito: After working up an appetite, I enjoyed a hearty breakfase at a beachside chiringuito. The combination of the salty sea breeze and the savory breakfast was pure bliss.
Afternoon: Betancuria and the Historical Museum: I headed inland to Betancuria, the island’s former capital, to explore its rich history. The town is filled with charming cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and the Betancuria Historical Museum, which offers fascinating insights into the island’s past.
Oasis Park Fuerteventura: As the day was winding down, I made my way to Oasis Park Fuerteventura. This zoo and botanical garden is home to an impressive collection of exotic animals and lush vegetation. Highlights included the lemur encounter and the breathtaking bird of prey show.
Evening: Dinner in Puerto del Rosario: I wrapped up my adventure with a delicious dinner in Puerto del Rosario, the island’s capital. I dined at a traditional Canarian restaurant and indulged in grilled goat cheese with honey. It was a fitting end to my culinary journey on the island.
Conclusion: Fuerteventura, with its natural beauty, adventure opportunities, and delectable cuisine, exceeded my expectations. It’s a place where you can relax on pristine beaches, explore historical towns, and embark on thrilling adventures. Whether you’re a beach lover, a history buff, or an adrenaline junkie, Fuerteventura has something for everyone.
